What a special night. Truly phenomenal. This month we had a brand spanking new Ignite Chester band as well as three wonderful young people sharing. Doors opened at 7pm and Youth Groups from across Chester and North Wales arrived ready for the countdown at 7:25pm.
We started the night lifting up the name of Jesus through praise and worship! Afterwards we all prayed for the various prayer request that had been sent in. Jonah then ran an exciting game of “go fetch” where the room was split in half into two teams called ‘Gravity’ and ‘Grace’ (see what we did there) , and each team competed to give their ‘runner’ the item called out by Jonah the fastest. Well done to both teams but ultimately team ‘Gravity’ was just too fast.
Next Luke invited the three young people up to share. They were all amazing! Naomi had the scary task of going first but she rose to the challenge and smashed it. With the title ‘How my faith affects my future’, Naomi highlighted the verses Proverbs 3:6 and Jeremiah 29:11. She also spoke about how sometimes you have to go through some really tricky stuff to get to the amazing things God has planned for us. We don’t know what the future holds, but HE DOES. She illustrated this with the example of Joseph, he had to be a slave, and a prisoner, but after that, God made him the second most important person in all of Egypt. Tough times don’t last, but tough people do.
After Naomi there was the entertaining Simeon, with the title ‘How my faith affects my choices’. He started by sharing a fact: did you know on average, each person makes 35,000 choices a day? Pray through your choices, should you be gossiping about that person? Is it wise to react badly to your enemy? Simeon used the example of King David from the Old Testament, to show that everybody makes good choices as well as making bad choices. With Saul, David loved his enemy, but with Bathsheba, David made the wrong choice. Every choice has a consequence. In order to ‘get the girl’ David made some terrible mistakes. Is your faith at the centre of your choices? Jesus needs to be the biggest influence in our choices.
Last but not least, Lucy shared word on the title ‘How my faith affects my perspective’. Firstly she talked about how our Christian faith affects our perspective of the things around us, specifically this wonderful universe. Lucy said when looking and images of space she thinks how can anyone look at the universe and think all this happened by accident. Then, Lucy challenged us all on how our faith affects our perspective with regards to ourselves. Using Psalm 139:13-14, she demonstrated that God made each and every one of us uniquely, not because he had to, but because he WANTED to. We are not made like sausages, we are perfectly, individually designed and created.
These three young people proved that no matter how old you are, you can share and be though-provoking and engaging to people of all ages.
We can’t wait to see you at the next Ignite Chester on Friday 21 st April!!!
