Ignite Chester March 2018
‘Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might’
Firstly, WOW. What an epic night we had at Ignite Chester this month (and every other month, obviously). Shout out to the amazing hosts, worship band, speakers and not forgetting our volunteers! God definitely worked in so many hearts of not just the young people of Chester, but within the hearts of leaders too.
FIVE MINUTES OF FIRE
Sophie brought five minutes of absolute FIRE to Ignite this month. I LOVE it when God puts our young people to the test, taking them out of their comfort zones and works through them because, lets face it, who do teenagers relate to the most - Teenagers! Sophie was challenged to share what was on her heart on the subject, ‘Being a Part Time Christian’. Pretty deep! It’s not a subject many of us will admit to being completely honest about sometimes. Her main focus was about….
‘Part time Christians can’t beat full-time Devils’
I mean, if that isn’t something to tweet or hashtag about I’m not sure what is! We all fail as Christians. We’re human! But that doesn’t excuse us from living for God with all our might every single day. Don’t become a Christian who turns up to Church on a Sunday or youth during the week and excuse yourself from God every other day. Here are the 3 points that Sophie shared about being a part-time Christian:
• Slack, Slap, Sin
It’s OK to mess up, but be aware of the consequences of your sin and repent of them. Isn’t it so great to know that God has already forgiven us for our sins even before we ask for His forgiveness? Don’t take that for granted people!
• Trinity – Like a Trilogy
Sophie gave a really good demonstration of how she thinks the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit) is like a trilogy. She used her favourite book series, ‘The Hunger Games’ as an example. You can’t receive the fullness of one without the other two!
• Is Jesus a hobby, or your life?
Bringing it back to the verse that was highlighted at the beginning of this blog. Ecclesiastes 9:10, ‘whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might’. Jesus desires to have your full attention, ALL THE TIME. Instead of treating Him like a hobby you may one day get fed up of, keep pursuing Him daily. Christianity is a commitment with your whole life.
We had the absolute pleasure of welcoming Harrison Gaines from Influence Church as our guest speaker this month. He also shared a great word following the same topic, ‘Being a part-time Christian’ and what he believed God had to say through him. Here are his three points:
• What are your blueprints?
I don’t know about you, but I find it so much easier to grasp and understand what someone is preaching about when they give a good, realistic example to go by!
Using the example of a builder, Harrison explained how blueprints are what these guys go by when they need direction in their jobs. So, what do we use to give ourselves direction in life? Social media, peer pressure and emotions are just three things that we let consume and direct our lives with. But instead of filling our lives with purpose, we allow these ‘blueprints’ to mess us up and create a life with no purpose.
2 TIMOTHY 3:16
‘All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.’
Point: Make the Bible your blueprint. Start and finish your day in the word of God!
• What is your Foundation?
‘Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock.’
Within the occupation of a builder, the foundations of their projects are the most important part. In our lives the one foundation that is the strongest and firmest is that of Gods.
• Break Down the Walls
2 SAMUEL 8:9-12
Are you building up dividing walls in your life, letting God in some parts and not in others? God loves you for all your imperfections, He wants to be apart of it ALL!
Reflecting on a great month, I’m sure you’ll agree that Ignite Chester is constantly growing with new hearts coming to know God and more young people hungry to spend more time in His presence, surrounded by people just like them. If you missed out this month, don’t let it happen next month, Friday 13th April - see you next time!
