In my opinion, this month's ignite was one of the most challenging so far!
After some brilliant worship led by our amazing ignite band, Lucy shared the five minutes of fire. She brought an incredible message on the topic of Your Race. She started off by asking the question " what is your race as a Christian?" She read a verse from Psalms which says "you knit me together in my mother's womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." Making the point that God doesn’t make mistakes, he made us with flaws for a reason. We then read Philippians 4:6 she pointed out that God knows what's best for us and he won't always say yes to our requests. He's not a fairy godmother!
After that Luke Fleming got on the stage and gave a few announcements before talking to us on the topic of Running the Race. Hebrews 12:1 was the central verse the talk was based around. He gave five main points but the three that stuck with me most in the days that followed were:
1.You Can Live A Fun, Crazy, Attractive Life Whilst Seeking Purity
Jesus died for us to live life to the full. So....... live the best, most fun, crazy life whilst following Jesus. Live life with nothing to regret! It's better to listen to God's opinion than a fool's opinion because, in reality, all that matters in this crazy world of comparison and judgment is what God thinks of us. And he just loves us.
2.It's Not About Speed It's About Direction
Following Jesus is a marathon not a sprint. When you run a marathon it's not about speed you could be jogging, walking, limping, or even crawling but how fast you're going isn't important it's what direction you're going in that matters. Just keep moving forward constantly! Small steps forward are better than standing still.
3.A Good Journey Always Needs People
We can't run our race alone, we need supportive friends and family around us. Even Jesus had twelve friends around him! We should be the bridge to the marathon, the people who help others join this incredible journey we're on.
We then had a time of response where several young people gave their lives to God for the first time which is so cool!
Ignite may was an unbelievable evening! If you weren't there you missed out so make sure we see you there on the 8th of June. Have a great month!!!
