The last weekend in November saw the Ignite team leave the normal surroundings of the Wirral to journey up to the Lake District. What led us there were two youth events in Penrith and Ulverston, at which we would be leading worship, but what met us there was much more than that. Both events were incredible in their own unique ways, with breakthrough coming for so many people on both nights in such contrasting ways. It was a privilege to be able to lead at them both and to witness people experiencing God. As well as the events though, we were able to spend time together as a team, with some of the most notable moments coming when travelling from Penrith to Ulverston via a route which took us straight through the heart of the Lakes, providing us with views that took our breath away repeatedly after every turn. During this journey we were able to eat, laugh and just experience that amazing part of the world together as a team.
From the hours spent in ‘Bertha’ the beloved minibus, to leading worship at both events and to simply eating together what we found was the presence of God is not simply something found in a meeting or something experienced when the first chord of a worship song sounds: it is something that can be found when experiencing the craziness and beauty of nature or in community with others journeying with you. As we drove through the snow-glazed landscape of the Lakes, journeyed and worshipped together, we experienced God and through that we began to grow as a team and more importantly as a family. When Ignite began almost 3 years ago, we always knew that it was so much more than a localised monthly event and it has been so exciting to see that come to light in weekends like this and we cannot wait to do it more.
