As a team, we are passionate about finding new music and being able to introduce you to the songs that we find. These songs often encourage and inspire us and we love having the opportunity to share them with you, so you too can be encouraged and inspired. As part of the worship at IGNITE Merseyside in April, we introduced you to Hillsong’s Touch the Sky – a song that for us has an incredible truth behind it.
Touch the Sky is about the power of surrender and the vastness of God’s grace. It talks about how we can find ourselves when we give our lives over to God (‘I found my life when I laid it down’) and how we are able to touch the sky when our knees hit the ground, showing we are able to reach the ultimate heights when we surrender all. As humans this concept of letting go in order to ultimately receive can be hard to do and it’s so easy to hold on to what we have out of fear. We’ve all at some point chased after the wrong things, hoping they will help us find meaning and purpose in life, but we are reminded that God is the only giver of purpose and all he desires in return is all of us. We must truly lay down our lives for God, giving everything over to him, not because we’re defeated but because he has conquered. From this release we find security, peace and life as he lifts us up. This song for me (and the rest of the Ignite team) has been particularly inspiring as we are encouraged to continue pursuing all that God has for us, even if this means abandoning our own agendas, so we can reach new heights in him.
